The Kardashians As Role Models

Regardless of what anyone thinks or how anyone feels about it, the Kardashians are likely the most famous family of our modern times. They have reached a nearly biblical level of exposure, and even those who do not own televisions can’t help but see their name everywhere they go on magazines, billboards, and merchandise. Even if you don’t know who they are, you know their name, and that means something. Predominantly rising to fame through their own reality television program, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”, the Kardashians have become veritable royalty of American entertainment. The Kardashians have become a symbol of power, like the Egyptian pyramids, and at the top of that pyramid is Kris Jenner, the mother. Leading the way, she had led her family to topple the industry, even starting their own businesses.

If you’ve ever seen the show, you can understand the universal appeal the family holds. While we may not all be multi-millionaires at the top of the upper-echelon of society, we can all relate to the many personal trials and tribulations the Kardashians bravely expose to the national public on their reality show. In the Kardashians, we come to see symbols of ourselves, and we learn about ourselves through learning about them.

One key lesson taught by the Kardashian story is that your past mistakes don’t always define your future. Regardless of your current circumstances, you always have the personal power and free-will necessary to overcome adversity and rise to the top. When you think about how Kim Kardashian initially got famous from an event that would likely be the most humiliating moment in the average life of a person, that being the leaking of a sex tape, it is incredible to see how Kim has leveraged this “infamy” into total economic viability, completely turning the tables on her would-be detractors using a finely-tuned mix of humbleness and confidence as her secret weapon.

Kylie Jenner, on the other hand, inspires us in how much she has accomplished at such a young age. Possibly the most ambitious of the bunch, Kylie has turned her fame into a perpetual motion machine of wealth. Starting her own make-up company and establishing herself as a landmark cultural influencer, Kylie has found the recipe to turn hay into gold using a lot of hard work a bit of cultural savvy, and it is inspiring.

Another thing that the show has taught us is that perfection is not always perfect. When we see the Kardashians, we see air-brushed models, but their outward perfection shells relatable human flaws that neither define nor inhibit them. The Kardashians are very forthright about all their personal problems on their reality show, and their courage in showcasing their flaws only makes them that much more perfect to the audience.

Lastly, the core value of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” would seem to be the importance of the family unit. The Kardashians depend on each other and look to each other for inspiration, just as we look to them. And while they may have their hard times, they always pull through for each other in the end, and that is something we can all aspire towards.
